What is a Vault? What’s the difference between Employee and Shared Vaults?

Vaults in 1Password are encrypted containers that store and separate your data, similar to folders on your computer. They help keep your information organized and secure while allowing different levels of access based on your role.

Types of Vaults in 1Password

  • Employee Vault: A place where you can store work-related credentials only that you don't want to share with other people. The items in your employee vaults are not directly available to other team members, but account Owners, administrators, or people with specific permissions can gain access after you leave your company.
  • Shared Vault: Designed for team collaboration, allowing multiple users to store and access shared credentials securely.

Best Practice: Always use your Employee Vault or credentials that only you need, and a Shared Vault when collaborating with others.
